We Are Tsvit Kalyny
Tsvit Kalyny — "Bloom of the Viburnum" — is more than a dance studio. It is a living expression of Ukrainian identity, a home for families, and a bridge between generations. Founded in the heart of the DMV area, we are a nonprofit Ukrainian dance studio dedicated to preserving and sharing the art of traditional Ukrainian folk dance with children, teens, and adults of all backgrounds.

The kalyna — the viburnum berry — has long been a symbol of beauty, resilience, and love for the homeland in Ukrainian culture. It is the spirit we carry into every class, every rehearsal, and every performance.
Through the discipline of traditional Ukrainian choreography, we give our students something that goes far beyond technique — a connection to history, a sense of belonging, and a pride in who they are. We welcome children from age four, teens, and adults, whether they are reconnecting with their heritage or discovering Ukrainian dance for the very first time.

Our Mission
Viktoriia brings the full depth of Ukraine's finest dance training to every class she teaches. A graduate of the prestigious Kyiv National University of Arts and Culture, she has performed on international stages across China, Vietnam, and South Korea — and graced one of America's most celebrated venues, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

Her teaching experience spans both Ukraine and the United States, and her approach reflects it: technically rigorous, culturally rich, and deeply human. Viktoriia does not just teach steps. She teaches students how to feel the music, inhabit a character, and carry the spirit of Ukraine with them wherever they go.
Viktoriia Baliakina
Andrii is a choreographer of rare versatility and vision. A graduate of Kherson State University, he has worked as a dancer, choreographer, and artistic director across Ukraine, Turkey, China, Vietnam, and South Korea — bringing Ukrainian movement traditions to stages around the world.

In Ukraine, Andrii served as chief choreographer and jury member at national dance competitions, earning the trust of the country's most demanding artistic circles. He brings that same exacting eye and generous spirit to Tsvit Kalyny — pushing students to grow while making every class feel like a celebration.
